VAN NUYS, Calif. - Evil Angel is raising money for its upcoming obscenity trial with a special collector's edition DVD featuring scenes hand-picked by owner John Stagliano to represent all of the studio's acclaimed directors.
Slated for release on July 3, the as-yet untitled compilation will include scenes from Jazz Duro's Cheek Freaks 2 (with Sandra Romain), Belladonna's Cock Happy (with Belladonna and Lexington Steele), John Leslie's Naomi: There's Only One, Harmony Films' The Initiation of Nikki Jayne, Jay Sin's Gape Lovers (with Dana DeArmond and Holly Wellin) and Jules Jordan's Ass Worship 1 (with Belladonna), among others.
Director Christoph Clark initially suggested the idea for the compilation to Evil Angel.
"Christoph wrote to us and said all of the directors should give a scene to John to make a movie for him," Evil Angel publicist Tricia Devereaux (a.k.a. Karen Stagliano) told AVN. "We were wondering if some of the directors would be willing to shoot an original scene, and we realized that we have never done a compilation of scenes from all our directors across the company. It's come up before, but we've never done it, and this seemed like the perfect time to do it."
In addition to the previously released content and on-camera commentary from John Stagliano, Joey Silvera, Belladonna, Sasha Grey and others, the upcoming disc will boast one new scene: a solo vignette starring Devereaux in a rare return to the screen.
"I wanted to do something on camera again for a long time, but I kept getting nervous," Devereaux told AVN. "It's no secret that I've put on a couple of pounds since I was an active perfomer. But these girls like Velicity Von or Gianna are curvaceous and I think they're really sexy...we've had a lot of great feedback from men who tell us they look like real women. I would have tried to tone up a little bit more, but it came to the point where if I was going to do something for this movie, I needed to do it now."
Devereaux will shoot her scene with director Jay Sin this Friday. "I'm really nervous but excited," she said. "It will start out as a solo with toys, and will also have Derrick Pierce psychologically dominating me and trying to tempt me to give in to more than just toys."
Meanwhile, John Stagliano hasn't let the federal obscenity charges slow him down. The director is currently completing two new Buttman videos and planning a big adult feature for later this year.
One of the forthcoming Buttman movies consists of solo girl scenes with Stagliano shooting the likes of Velicity Von and Jandi Lin. The other features boy/girl scenes shot in Europe and Brazil; Stagliano had just returned from one of these shoots when he learned of the obscenity indictment.
"I don't want to say it's revived him; he already shot some of these scenes before that," said Devereaux. "We found out about the indictment on a Tuesday night and then he was supposed to shoot a [solo girl] scene Wednesday morning. John asked our lawyer, Should I cancel it? The lawyer said go ahead and shoot it.
"It set a really good tone to how we were going to approach this," Devereaux said. "Yes, this is a serious thing, but we are not going to let it ruin our everyday life or our business."
