Evasive Angles Courts Controversy With 'Roots' Parody

CHATSWORTH, Calif.—Is there such a thing as a porn parody that crosses the line? Evasive Angles Entertainment is certainly flirting with finding out the answer to that question by unleashing upon the world Can't Be Roots XXX Parody: The Untold Story, due in stores October 31.

According to the company, its take on the celebrated slavery epic should not automatically be met with offense. "It's made pro-black, it's not pro-white," director and Evasive Angles owner T.T. Boy explained to AVN. "It has comedy in it; it's something like one of the Dave Chappelle Roots [skits]. The slaves fuck all the white girls, the daughters and the wives of the masters. It's wild."

Neverless, the production has definitely struck a sour note with some.

"There's a lot of people going crazy over the idea, thinking that we shouldn't have done it," T.T. said. "We had some actors and actresses that wouldn't partake in the movie. I had four people say, 'No, we don't want any part of it.'"

Not just talent took exception to the project, either: After getting wind of it, local members of the NAACP attempted to shut down the South Florida shoot, revealed Evasive sales director Edward Smith.

"A couple of the [NAACP] representatives came out with their signs to try to shut it down," Smith said. "We were already done, we were just finishing up with some dialogue, so they caused the property owners to try to kick us out. We finished up, but we had a little bit of hassle there. They thought we were putting it in a bad light."

Whether bad or good, Evasive put Can't Be Roots in a decidedly costly light—it is, in fact, the company's biggest-budget picture to date.

"We used a $10,000 location, and it looks as real as you can get. The production value is out of the world," T.T. Boy boasted. "We have costumes that are from the 1800s, they're exact. We have a wagon that's from 1850. It ended up costing a lot of money, because we had a lot of extras and we had a lot of stuff going on, and the cast is probably about 20 people."
