Erotic Heritage Museum Names Clare O Hagan Featured Artist

LAS VEGAS—The Erotic Heritage Museum on Thursday announced Clare O Hagan as its Summer 2018 Featured Artist. O Hagan’s latest exhibition, “Embracing Women,” will be exhibited in the EHM’s Lobby Library, now through the end of August.

“Embracing Women” is a series of some 50 drawings and prints created over a period of two decades by artist Clare O Hagan. The prints and drawings celebrate female eroticism, empowerment, and same-sex intimacy. Based on life drawing studies, each piece explores female sexuality through the lens of O Hagan’s personal feminism. They not only explore the female experience but examines notions of sensuality and desire without self-censorship.

In addition to the live exhibition, “Embracing Women” is also available as an ebook for both Mac and PC, as well as a print edition; for more information, click here.

"What attracted me to Clare's art was how real and how compelling it is,” says EHM curator Brittany Crosby. “The models she works with aren't the typical nude models, they have weight and curves. She creates still-life works, which she then paints or stamps over magazine images. For the exhibit, we wanted to make it feel like you were walking into an artist studio; the art isn't hung perfectly, the images overlap, and it is organic in its installation. We are honored to be working with Clare to share her vision with our museum guests."

The Irish-born O Hagan is an award-winning visual artist and filmmaker who lives in London. O Hagan creates and produces art projects, ambitious in scale and concept, conveying complex aspects of the human condition and the world she inhabits, utilizing a wide variety of media which include: printmaking, drawing, altered art, still photography, film, moving image, and textiles.

Most recently, O Hagan’s printmaking artwork was in exhibition in Japan at the Awagami International Miniature Print Exhibition 2017, where her work received an Honorable Mention, and the UK on an eight-gallery tour in the South of England. In addition to working independently, O Hagan is one half of Wyllie O Hagan, a unique artistic partnership with Denise Wyllie. Wyllie O Hagan’s works have been featured in gallery exhibitions and screened at film festivals internationally.

Of the installation at EHM, writer Rosie Mussen writes in BUST Magazine (May 2018):

“Las Vegas’ Erotic Heritage Museum is a sex positive exhibition space, operating with an ethos that sexual pleasure is an intrinsic aspect of the human experience and celebrations of human sexuality should be madeavailable to all. So, it makes sense for Irish-born, London-based artist and activist Clare O Hagan to utilise this unique space for her upcoming solo exhibition, ‘Embracing Women.’"

The Erotic Heritage Museum houses more than 24,000 square feet of permanent and featured exhibits. The museum’s ethos is that sexual pleasure and its depiction are natural aspects of the human experience, and that such celebrations of individual human sexuality—that of pleasure—must be made available to all, regardless of gender, race, or belief.
