Eros Foundation: Pirates Profit from Aussie Porn Ban

CANBERRA, Australia - The ban on pornography that took effect today in Australia's northern aboriginal communities is being circumvented by black market traders sending pirated porn DVDs into the region, according to adult industry lobby group the Eros Foundation.

Eros' Robbie Swan told ABC Australia that the pirated material is coming from Darwin post office boxes, and getting through because it is unclassified and cheap.

"At $12 for a DVD, yes I think they could [get into the region]," Swan said. "I mean, it's extremely cheap. If you wanted to buy an adult classified film from Canberra, you're looking at $50. These people don't pay any classification fees and they don't pay copyright fees."

Swan previously told ABC that the Eros Foundation has been providing intelligence to Australian authorities for four years about these contraband traders in Darwin, and that nothing has been done about it.
