AVN Media Networks has appointed adult industry veteran Doug Lawrence as their new Gay and Bi Managing Editor for AVN. Lawrence worked for Knight Publishing in an editorial capacity for the last seven years.
Lawrence joins Tim Connelly, newly appointed AVN publisher and editor, whom he worked with at Knight Publishing. Connelly described his pleasure at having Lawrence join his editorial tealm once again, saying "I feel like a kid in a candy store here at AVN. There's so many opportunities and Doug's coming over will continue our long-standing relationship that has allowed to nurture our relationships with the movie studios as well as raising the bar editorially.
"...and when we get to work doing the GAYVN Annual Buyers Guide, it will become the benchmark and bible of the industry. Count on it," Connelly added.
After a stint as a publicist in the mainstream world, Lawrence began his career in adult publishing working for Larry Flynt Publications in various editorial positions for various publications. He worked for LFP for twelve years, which he describes as "an eye-opening experience" before joining Knight Publishing.
During his time at Knight, Lawrence served as the editor of the monthly Adam Gay Video XXX Showcase and the Annual Adam Gay Video Directory.
"I think coming in one of my big concerns is finding out what the gay companies really want. I think that I've established roots within the industry well enough that people know that they can trust me," said Lawrence. "I want to build on existing relationships and expand our outreach to new companies as they arise.
"Tim [Connelly] and I go back a long way, so I'm happy to be able to continue working with him. I'd like to thank him for bringing me over - and of course the legendary Paul Fishbein," Lawrence told AVN.com.
