Doing the Devil's Work: Danny Gorman on His New Gig at Pulse

Earlier this month, veteran sales representative Danny Gorman took a big step when he ended a dozen-year stint at Juicy Entertainment for a gig at Pulse Distribution. In his new position at Pulse, Gorman will be the primary sales rep for Devil’s Film.

AVN caught up with the industry pro, who’s feeling invigorated by the move—but also very satisfied with his time with Juicy. “It’s been an incredible working experience, but sometimes you feel like making a change and doing something new,” Gorman said.

Even better, he’s working with a longtime friend, Eric Gutterman, who runs Devil’s Film. “We’ve been friends for 30 years and it feels right to finally be working together,” Gorman said.

Gorman’s three-decade career is a snapshot of the history of adult video, with stints at Adult Video Corporation, CalVista, Vivid, Metro and Sin City. But, Gorman muses, he never spent longer than five years at most of his gigs.

“For me to be someplace for 12 years, that’s a long time to be at one company,” Gorman said.

But they were good years, Gorman says. He learned a lot working with company owner Jerry E., whom he praises as a good man. And he already misses colleague Ed Smith, who sells for sister company Exile Distribution. “Great salesman, funny guy.”

Though he misses his old crew, Gorman’s found some like-minded folks at Pulse. “They’re real cool here. There’s a couple of musicians here too,” says Gorman, who plays in his own band, the Yellow Pages. “I’m doing more music now, too, which makes me feel better.”

Aside from enjoying his new coworkers, Gorman also enjoys working at a company that represents such a broad range of studio lines. “I’ve got a new outlook on everything,” he says. Adult movies are the priority at Pulse, and owner Jim Kohls is “keeping DVDs alive.”

Gorman also is excited about selling for Devil’s—not only the established content the company is known for, but also its new line, Jane Doe Pictures. “I’m in control of that, too. Jane Doe’s got some nice-looking boxes,” he notes with satisfaction.

Gorman also runs Dirty Laundry, his own small imprint, which he started shortly after going to Juicy. Over the years, he’s released over 100 titles. Going forward, the releases be carried by Pulse Distribution and Gorman will handle the sales.
