Digital Playground Ships 100th Blu-ray Release

VAN NUYS, Calif. - Digital Playground is now shipping its 100th Blu-ray disc release.

Directed by Robby D, Digital Playground's Bad Girls arrives in stores March 31. The movie features three of the studio's contract girls: Gabriella Fox, Shay Jordan, and AVN Best New Starlet winner Stoya, who performed her first boy/boy/girl scene for the movie.

"Fans are hungry for high-end adult production," DP founder Joone told AVN. "We are seeing sales going up every month for our Blu-ray tiles. But the fans are being very picky on what they pay for on Blu-ray versus getting it for less on DVD or downloading it. The better the production, the more chances for the customer to buy and pay the extra for Blu-ray.

"Digital Playground's Bad Girls is the ideal title to be our 100th Blu-ray release and demonstrates how high definition and Blu-ray have revolutionized the adult industry."

Digital Playground is the industry's leading producer of high-def content, holding over 25 percent of the total adult Blu-ray disc releases on the market.

"What an amazing accomplishment this is for the adult industry," said Paul Fishbein, President of AVN Media.  "Considering adult studios were not given access to the Blu-ray format when it was first developed, Digital Playground has wasted no time in becoming the leader in Blu-ray for the adult industry. In fact, they are producing enough high-quality titles to make a mainstream studio jealous."

In 2005, DP became the first adult studio to release a high-definition movie with the release of Island Fever 3. By the time Sony won the high-def format war with Toshiba's HD DVD,the company had already amassed a large library of Blu-ray ready titles in full 1080p resolution.

"Fans are hungry for high-end adult production," Joone told AVN. "We are seeing sales going up every month for our Blu-ray tiles. But the fans are being very picky on what they pay for on Blu-ray versus getting it for less on DVD or downloading it. The better the production, the more chances for the customer to buy and pay the extra for Blu-ray."

Digital Playground releases its new movies simultaneously on Blu-ray and standard DVD. The company also has a steady schedule of catalog titles hitting Blu-ray each month.

"We are driven to be the first to adopt new technologies and platforms in order to provide the consumers with the best viewing experience possible," Joone said.

Last year, over 30 million households worldwide had purchased a Blu-ray player.  Technology analysts see that number growing to 132 million by 2012.
