LOS ANGELES—Digital Playground on Thursday announced plans to release of Project X, a sci-fi thriller about earth’s last line of defense against an intergalactic contagion.
Episode 1 will begin streaming on DigitalPlayground.com on September 2.
Directed by Ricky Greenwood, Project X is headlined by Cherie DeVille with support from Luna Star and Monique Alexander and a large ensemble cast that includes Ryan Reid, Mick Blue, Alex Jones, Hollywood Cash and Tommy Pistol.
“Project X was an amazing production,” says Greenwood. “It really feels like a blockbuster movie, from the crew, cast and all the effort we put into the project. Everyone was on top of their game, I’m pretty sure the fans will have a lot of fun and love what Digital Playground is cooking.”
The film follows the events after an unidentified flying object crashes at a remote location. A mysterious, ravishing woman known only as ‘The Entity’ (Luna Star) is pulled from the wreckage. Captain Bullock (Monique Alexander) summons top scientists Dr. Allie Sharpe (Cherie DeVille), Dr. John Harding (Mick Blue) and Dr. Carl Ladner (Alex Jones) to study her condition, which they fear is contagious. When the patient suddenly awakens and takes their colleague hostage, they find themselves locked in a battle for the fate of humanity as we know it.
“Project X was a complex and challenging project,” says a DP rep. “We wanted to pay homage to some of our favorite sci-fi thrillers, with as much action and movie magic packed in as possible. Ricky and his crew gave it their all, and our stellar cast gave career-defining performances. Flying colors doesn’t even begin to cover it.”
“Working with Ricky Greenwood on Project X was an incredible experience," DeVille says. "His direction truly brought out the best in all of us, creating an environment where creativity and professionalism thrived. Playing Dr. Allie Sharpe, a brilliant scientist tasked by the government to investigate an alien landing, was both challenging and rewarding. Ricky’s vision and guidance made it easy to dive into the role and bring this intense, high-stakes story to life.”
Luna Star enthused about the opportunity to play a sexy and mysterious extraterrestrial in Project X.
“The entire cast was incredible for Project X and I’m super excited to see the final product! I know the hours and hours spent in makeup to become The Entity really paid off,” says Star. “One of my favorite scenes was an intense monologue I had and Ricky Greenwood helped me to bring out my best performance.”
With the help of Captain Bullock (Alexander) and Lieutenants Myers and Hunt (Ryan Reid and Hollywood Cash) the scientists race against the clock to unravel the mystery. What they discover makes this already complicated situation even more complex. Monique Alexander was thrilled to make her return to shooting a Digital Playground feature.
“It was so exciting to be back on set on such a huge project!” Alexander says. “I haven’t done a huge feature production in years, I loved how professional it all was, and all the details. The cast and crew were my favorite everyone there was amazing and so much fun to work with.”
Mick Blue, who plays Dr. Harding, pointed to the chemistry on set.
“Jumping into the life of Dr. Harding was super fun," he says. "His character was very easy to combine with my life experiences and felt great to bring alive. Project X is definitely a movie to remember this year.
"And last but not least, the scene I did with Cherie was definitely one of my best this year. I love the true chemistry I always find with her.”
Alex Jones was also up for the challenge of playing a scientist desperate to save humanity. “Project X was such an amazing film to be a part of!” says Jones. “I play Dr. Ladner in the movie and I love that I was cast for this role. My character is a bit of a comedian and a ladies man. It was so much fun being on set with everyone and working alongside Luna, Cherie, and Mick was incredible as always!”
“It was my first time working with Ricky Greenwood on a movie, it’s incredible to see how serious he takes it and makes sure all the angles are captured,” says Ryan Reid. “ I cannot wait to work more with Ricky and see the final outcome.”
Hollywood Cash echoed the sentiments.
“Shooting Project X was an amazing experience!” says Cash. “I grew closer to a lot of my peers in the process. Working with Ricky Greenwood is always fun and you know the finished product will be top quality.”
The four-part feature will release throughout the month of September with the first episode premiering on September 2.
