Digital Playground Extends 'Pirates II' Retail Contest

VAN NUYS, Calif. - Digital Playground has extended the deadline for its Pirates II retail contest to March 31.

The promotion gives stores across the country the chance to compete for $20,000 in cash and prizes by creating original pirate-themed displays. Online votes will decide the winner.

"The Pirates II: Stagnetti’s Revenge Retail Contest will be even larger than the first!" said Digital Playground CEO Samantha Lewis. "We are expecting more than 10 times the number of applicants, so stores are really going to have to work harder this time. We are giving away 50 fabulous prizes. Of course, with the amount of attention the stores get for participating, everyone is successful."

The grand prize winner will receive $10,000, second prize is $5,000, and third prize is $2,500. Digital Playground will reward the remainder of the top 50 entries with signed copies of Pirates II on Blu-ray and DVD and signed posters.

To enter, retailers must upload a photo of their display at www.PiratesXXX.com/contest (click 'Admin' for instructions.) Customers can vote online at the same address.

According to Fairvilla Megastores CEO Tom Berger, the original Pirates promotion created a significant sales boost for the participating retail outlets.

"After we built the pirate ship in our Orlando store, monthly Pirates movie sales doubled," Berger said. "Fairvilla MegaStore Key West, which has a greater diversity in merchandise and higher browsing traffic, sold 300 percent more Pirates DVDs during the contest than in any previous month. In addition to increased revenue, the contest provided excitement and focus in our stores."
