Daniel Metcalf Leaves Wicked Pictures

Adult industry veteranDaniel Metcalf has resigned from his position as the head of publicity for Wicked Pictures after six years with the company. Metcalf has launched his own public relations and boutique literary management agency, Daniel Metcalf Public Relations.

On leaving Wicked, Metcalf told AVN.com in a statement, "One of the greatest experiences of my life has been being a part of Wicked Pictures as it evolved from an intimate family-run business to a thriving corporation of some thirty-five people. I am both grateful and indebted to [Wicked president and co-founder] Steve Orenstein to the many opportunities he has given me.”

During Metcalf’s time at Wicked, the company shared 2003’s AVN Award for Best Marketing Campaign — Company Image with Digital Playground.

About his new venture, Metcalf said, “DMPR serves authors of intelligent, adult non-fiction. We are particularly interested in contemporary culture, current affairs and politics, biography and history, business, science and technology, environment, food and cooking, health and medicine, and New Age and sexual self-help. At this time, we do not represent fiction, stage plays, screenplays, poetry, or books for children or young adults. Our clients include journalists, academics, musicians, and expert authors. If you are a writer seeking a literary agent, or a performer seeking PR, we invite you to explore our sites, www.danielmetcalf.com and www.myspace.com/danielmetcalfpr.”

Metcalf was previously employed by AVN as an editor along with other publications and worked as a mainstream literary agent before joining Wicked as well.

Of his new company’s mission, Metcalf said, “With DMPR we hope to bridge the adult genre and the mainstream world in a fresh, intelligent way. Our current clients split the difference between genre and non-genre. When I last worked in the publishing field, I was very much enamored of the work of Ayn Rand, and I still try to emulate her moral code in my work, specifically the concept of Man as a heroic being, with his own happiness as the moral purpose of his life, with productive achievement as his noblest activity, and reason as his only absolute. If there is anyone we can help either professionally or personally, we invite them to contact us today.”

Metcalf’s last day at the company will be July 14. Wicked has not decided who will take over the company’s publicity needs as of press time.
