LOS ANGELES—Humberto Buniotto says his team at CLEAR in Miami loves the idea of helping an industry that often faces challenges from outside forces.
It’s why he says servicing the adult community at the company's state-of-the-art lab in South Florida so far has been a rewarding endeavor—and it’s only the beginning.
“Our first three months have been great!” Buniotto, the CEO of CLEAR, tells AVN. “We initially opened up an industry-only testing area in our lab facility in Miami.
“The Miami-area population of talent, agencies and producers has embraced us with open arms, and we have been listening to the local community and fine-tuning the operation to meet the demands in order to earn the support of the performers, producers and agencies around the country.”
Buniotto continues, “There is some hesitancy from performers and agencies to try us out, which stems from concerns about studios not accepting our tests despite plenty of press about us being PASS-certified. Addressing this has been mission #1 for us, and we are confident this is just an educational hurdle. Studios want options; we just need to earn their trust that we are in it for the long term.”
With CLEAR, Buniotto & Co. have set out to “re-invent" testing for the adult industry with fast, economical results. CLEAR notifies talent by text and email when their results are ready. Then talent can share the results from the CLEAR app with agencies or producers—or across the CLEAR network.
CLEAR became a PASS-certified partner this past summer, sharing mutual goals of promoting the health and safety of adult industry workers.
“I can’t say enough good things about PASS,” Buniotto says. “From the first call with Ian O’Brien, PASS’s executive director, he was incredibly transparent about what to expect and that this would be a long game.
“He has been extremely attentive and available with every twist and turn, and we are extremely grateful.”
Buniotto recalls how a few years ago he heard from a friend in the industry that performers and producers “weren’t happy with the limited testing options available, combined with the lack of cohesion and an increasing level of inefficiency.”
“At the time, we were involved in many other projects, so we couldn’t do anything meaningful,” he says. “At the beginning of 2022, we found out nothing had changed, so we did our homework and realized we were in a position to provide better, faster and more performer-centric service than what’s being offered now.
“We love the idea of leveraging our technology and experience to support an industry that faces constant pushback from regulators. As time progresses and the industry evolves, I am confident in our ability to help the industry in that respect.”
He notes that unlike companies that attempted to enter the industry in the past, CLEAR is part of a healthcare group that operates its own lab and doesn’t outsource testing.
“Our group runs a full-service clinical lab in Miami that process tests for CLEAR,” Buniotto explains. “While testing is currently only available in Miami, we recognize that LA and Vegas also have a need, and we are actively working to open locations in those areas in the coming months.”
CLEAR Miami—in operation since 2014—occupies about 10,000 square feet of space including the lab and offices.
“We focus on highly automated processes and workflows to reduce costs to our customers and provide faster-than-usual turnaround times,” Buniotto says.
He says the Win-Win Program has been well received and “very positive.” With the program, all Free Speech Coalition (FSC) and Pineapple Support members get $10 off every time they get tested with CLEAR.
“Our goal from the start has been to offer affordable, fast, performer-centric testing,” Humberto adds. “We also wanted to partner with reputable organizations in the industry that are serious about their work to help performers.
"We have had dozens of performers take advantage of a discounted panel while still supporting these wonderful non-profits, and we are very proud of our partnership with them.
“We hope to partner with other organizations in the industry to further our commitment to performers.”
CLEAR Miami is open seven days a week; Monday through Friday from 8 to 6; and 8 to 1 on Saturday and Sunday.
