City Questions Minnesota Strip Club Law

According to a Pioneer Press report, that the city of Lakeville intends to overrule a Minnesota state law regulating strip clubs and other adult businesses.

Passed in 2006, the state law allows local governments to prevent new adult businesses from opening in cities where adult-oriented clubs or stores exist within 50 miles of the prospective location. The law also dictates that strip clubs must give 60 days' advance notice to cities before opening their doors.

"The state law was put in place predominantly for the communities that do not have regulations," said Daryl Morey, Lakeville planning director. "We feel that ours are adequate."
