Chad Alva Tries Hand at Rap With New Single on Hitting 900 Scenes

LOS ANGELES—After performing in more than 900 sex scenes and earning multiple awards and award nominations, Chad Alva returns to his musical roots with the release of a new rap single, "1-900-REAL-GOD.”

“I've been playing music since I was about 13 years old. I bought my first bass guitar and taught myself how to play because I wanted to start a band with my friends,” Alva said. “Back then, in about 1998, bands like Korn, Deftones and Limp Bizkit had just started getting huge, and it was my dream to do what they were doing. Lately, a lot of people ask why I have so many different music projects in all different genres, but to me, all genres have equal potential, and I'm interested in the dynamic value of all of it.”

In the music video for the single, Alva is seen shaving off his long hair as he juxtaposes man’s earthly passions with those for the Almighty—with the assistance of some adult stars.

“The one thing that's screamingly common in both porn culture and this century of hip-hop culture is that everyone either feels the need to be, or likes to pretend like they are, the best,” Alva said. “There's a very competitive energy that's always being exercised. Most of the art and music I've made is generally very left field and very insular, but the point of this project is to do the opposite. I'm playing everyone's game with this one, and what better way to do so, than to pick the one moniker that literally cannot be trumped? There is no higher title than 'The Real God,' is there? Now, the highest title imaginable has been claimed and there's no way anyone can outdo it.”

Growing up around music and music concerts in Minnesota, Alva gravitated toward death metal in his early years, when he formed his first band, Nehemiah, as a sophomore in high school. It was a melodic death metal band that immediately found regional success across the Midwest and elsewhere, including Orange County. He later formed Dead to Fall, another melodic death metal band, based in Chicago, which went on to tour the U.S., Canada and Europe from 2005 to 2008.

By the time the band was recording its final album, Alva began dating a young woman who encouraged him in his musical endeavors. The two soon moved to Los Angeles where they agreed to pursue careers in the adult industry—she as Andy San Dimas—while he continued to work on his music.

“Andy and I decided it was time to move to L.A. to pursue our mutual dream of doing the porn star thing, which was a completely different thing in 2008 compared to what it is today,” he recalled. “Eon McKai was the first director to put Andy in a spotlight and give me a real shot in some legit XXX features for Vivid-Alt. On My Dirty Knees was the first big XXX feature I performed in, and that was a showcase for Andy, based on her actual trajectory at the time. Eon showed me the ropes and made me feel confident enough to pursue the career more full-on.”

He soon began performing for such studios as Adam & Eve, Elegant Angel, Evil Angel, Jules Jordan Video, New Sensations and many others, becoming known for his positive attitude and ability to perform under pressure.

But as his career took off, Alva found little time for his music as he continued to build on his work. With the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic and ensuing economic shutdown, he was afforded the time for a completely different musical venture with the new single and video. As his love for music re-emerges, the industry veteran aims to balance his porn work with creating more music and returning to the concert stage when governmental health restrictions ease.

“It's pretty simple. I have great sex regularly for work, then when I go home, I'm less focused on needing to get laid and can spend a lot of my free time and energy working on the creation of art and media instead,” Alva said. “It's actually a really great system for me. I have porn to thank for giving me enough free time and energy to do what I do.”

Although music has been a steady part of his life as he continues to book shoots through OC Modeling, Alva also has written several books over the years, including the novels Warship Satan and Popping Cherries as well as two anthologies of short stories.

“If you're curious to read more from me, and you're reading this interview, I recommend getting your hands on a copy of my book Warship Satan, as it's based on my transition from full time touring musician into full time porn performer," he said. "It's the work I'm most proud of, personally. I've also adapted it into a screenplay and now my most ambitious life goal is to get it made into a feature film.”

Despite the pandemic, Alva is grateful to expand his creative interests into other areas as he plans for the future.

“My habitual creations and projects were a bit of a savior when the pandemic first hit. I spent a great chunk of the early part of the pandemic creating an entire music score for a sci-fi feature film which will be coming out later this year,” he said. “Hopefully it'll see a release on one of the streaming services—we'll just have to wait and see. Composing music scores for film and TV is something I'd like to do more of as I grow older, and now that door has been opened, so it's not too ambitious of a tail-end dream.”
