Cardi B Named 2019 AVN Awards Musical Guest

CHATSWORTH, Calif.—AVN Media Network announced today that chart-topping powerhouse rapper Cardi B has been selected as the 2019 AVN Awards musical guest. This will be the first time a woman has been the musical guest in the history of the AVN Awards. The record-breaking artist became the first female rapper to land her first three entries in the top 10 of the Hot 100 and the first female artist to achieve the same on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. Her latest album, Invasion of Privacy, was named Time magazine’s album of 2018. The AVN Awards, the sexiest awards show of the year, will take place on January 26, 2019, at The Joint inside the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Las Vegas.

AVN president Tony Rios made today’s announcement. “We are beyond thrilled to be welcoming Cardi B to perform at the 2019 AVN Awards,” Rios said. “Our audience is in for a treat with her performance. For the first time in more than three decades, we will have an all-female cast—our co-hosts, our comedian and our musical guest.”

“I’m so excited that the AVN Awards chose me to be their first female performer ever! I can’t wait!” commented Cardi B.

The 2019 AVN Awards will be hosted by adult stars Romi Rain and Bailey Rayne on January 26, 2019, as part of the AVN Adult Entertainment Expo, scheduled January 23-26 at the iconic venue. Both the 2019 AVN Awards and the AVN Adult Entertainment Expo are presented by MyFreeCams.

Cardi B, born Belcalis Almanzar in the Bronx, is an American rapper whose rambunctious spirit and brave tongue garnered instant online popularity. Coupled with her “no filter attitude,” she became an Internet celebrity through Instagram. From 2015 to 2017, she appeared as a recurring cast member on a VH1 reality television series while also recording her first and second mixtapes. In February 2017, she signed her first major label record deal with Atlantic Records. Her debut single for Atlantic, titled “Bodak Yellow,” reached number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart, making her the second-ever female rapper to do so with a solo output, following Lauryn Hill in 1998. The New York Times called it “the rap anthem of the summer” and the single was included on her debut studio album Invasion of Privacy (2018). In 2017, she performed with Remy Ma, The Lady of Rage, MC Lyte, Young M.A., Monie Love, Lil’ Kim and Queen Latifah, to celebrate female rappers and perform Latifah’s 1993 hit single “U.N.I.T.Y.” about female empowerment. In January 2018, Cardi B became the first woman to have five top 10 singles simultaneously on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop chart.
