CHATSWORTH, Calif.—2014 AVN Female Performer of the Year Bonnie Rotten made a bang during her roughly three active years in adult movies more seismic than the vast majority of women who cycle in and out of Porn Valley.
From landing the acclaimed Digital Sin showcase Meet Bonnie practically upon her arrival in 2012, to signing with the elite Spiegler Girls talent agency the same year, to being selected as a Trophy Girl for the 2013 AVN Awards, to her bevy of subsequent award wins capped by her Performer of the Year crown, she remained a force to be reckoned with until she stepped away from the spotlight in 2015 to have a baby.
So it goes without saying that her announcement about two weeks ago that she was making her return as a Brazzers contract star was earth-shaking news, indeed.
AVN spoke with Rotten about her decision to come back, what she's been doing since she left, and what lies ahead.
"It's been a little over three years since I have performed!" Rotten said. "My last performances were for my production company through Elegant [Angel]. It was obviously a huge decision—I left the industry to start a family, to do my appearances and get my sex toy line [Bonnie Rotten Black Label] going. I moved to New York and opened a tattoo shop in Brooklyn in 2017, but found myself back here in California later that year."
All that time, however, she still kept one foot in the industry. "The business has somehow always attracted me; I've been doing my dance gigs and appearances for the past couple of years, so I haven't been completely gone," she explained.
When Brazzers recently approached her with the contract offer, she said, "I thought about it for a while and decided this is my chance to come back as a contract girl for the biggest company in the business and really do something special! In a way, it was always my dream, so I made the decision to make a comeback with Brazzers for the year."
Under the one-year agreement, Rotten divulged, "I'll be doing eight scenes a month minimum, as well as lots of awesome, fun projects!" As far as what (and whom) exactly her comeback scene will involve, she teased, "We are in the midst of planning. We want everything to be perfect, because this is going to be the biggest comeback ever!"
Asked if fans can expect to see a different Bonnie Rotten in any way this time around, she mused, "Honestly, I would have to say I have only gotten dirtier on my hiatus! It's funny because a lot of us get into the business at such a young age, we don't really know our own sexuality yet. Well, I really tapped into mine ... and you all should be scared!"
She added that her mental approach to performing has evolved as well. "I am definitely always going to be the most physical fucker, but now I'm even more of a mental one," she said. "I am coming back with the mindset that everything that we do, we are going to make a special project, or it's going to be epic in some way."
Having also established herself as an AVN Award-nominated director (she received nods in 2015 and 2016 for helming the respective parodies Cape Fear XXX for DreamZone/Vantage and Sisters of Anarchy for Digital Playground/Pulse, and she directed and produced a number of titles for her own Mental Beauty, distributed through Girlfriends Films, and the aforementioned Elegant Angel), the question naturally presents itself whether she has any intention of making an accompanying comeback behind the camera too.
"There has been some talk about me coming back to direct a title," Rotten revealed, "but as of now, I want to put all my focus into giving the best scenes in the biz! I'm back and I'm ready to go!"
No doubt her fans are every bit as ready to watch. And she promises they will not be disappointed.
Summing up what they have to look forward to, she declared, "I'm super honored and excited to be a Brazzers contract girl. It's really going to be an amazing collaboration this year, and I hope you all just keep watching and keep up on the updates because it's going to be insane on all fronts!"
