CHATSWORTH, Calif.—Yes, it's true—AVN Awards pre-nom time has come early this year.
While this may take some by surprise, we feel it's only fair to note that Halloween candy has already popped up in stores, so we're keeping with the traditional markers of the season's kick-off. And with that said, AVN Media Network hereby officially invites any and all adult industry professionals to begin submitting pre-nominations for the 2023 AVN Awards, taking place in person on the Las Vegas Strip January 7, 2023, and presented by MyFreeCams.
Legitimate adult industry producers, directors, talent and other active personnel may submit their productions, products and other work of the last year for awards consideration using the AVN Awards Pre-Nomination Site, located at:
Of course, an early start to the submission period means an early deadline as well, so be advised that the Pre-Nom Site will close promptly at midnight the night of September 15, and there will be no extension of this deadline. Rest assured, however, that the traditional deadline of Septmber 30 to release submitted material commercially will remain in place.
Those who have previously been approved to use the Pre-Nom Site may use the same login to access the site for this year's submissions. Anyone without a previously approved login must fill out the sign-up form to request access HERE.
Pre-nominations are also now open for the 2023 GayVN Awards, and industry members may request access to submit pre-noms for that event as well using the same application form.
For the slate of categories to be presented at the 2023 AVN Awards—which will mark the event's 40th anniversary—organizers have implemented a sweeping overhaul of various names and competition fields (listed in full below) in order to both contemporize them and make them better reflect the nature of the arenas they recognize.
In particular, the customary laurels for the craft of adult video directing have been completely reconceptualized, with a new quartet of categories for Best Directing Portfolio in the sub-sectors of International, Narrative, Non-Narrative and Specialty fare, and one top prize for Outstanding Directing – Individual Work.
"With the job of directing in today's marketplace not only frequently being a collaborative effort, but also by and large a scene-by-scene endeavor, as opposed to overseeing fully-conceived movies (though those are alive and well), we felt that this model for our directing categories made much more sense, and should even the playing field substantially," AVN senior editor Peter Warren explained. "We're also very excited to be opening the gates up for the first time to those directors who specialize in niche and other types of targeted content, who have been all but shut out from recognition for their work in the past."
Note that as in previous years, those approved for the Pre-Nom Site may submit a maximum of FIVE (5) pre-nominations in any one category. With that in mind, we strongly urge all those participating in the pre-nomination process to take great care in what and whom they choose to submit for consideration, limiting it to the very best of the best selections within a given category.
