AVN Adds Transsexual Performer Category

In addition to the four previously announced new categories, AVN has decided to recognize the talents of one of the best-selling niches in adult video with the creation of the Best Transsexual Performer category.

“This genre continues to grow and with more and more performers becoming established and the overall level of quality improving, we feel it time transsexuals are honored for their efforts," Tim Connelly, publisher and editor-in-chief of AVN, told AVN.com.

Previously, the only award recognizing the transsexual genre was the Best Transsexual Tape, which many felt recognized the directors but not the performers.

The addition of the AVN Award for Best Transsexual Performer brings the total new categories for the 2004 AVN Awards to five. The other new categories are Best Amateur Tape, Best Amateur Series, Best Marketing Website — Production Company and Best Retail Website.

Connelly once again reminded all adult producers that to be considered for AVN Awards nominations this year, productions must be released and submitted for consideration by September 30.

To be considered for a 2004 Awards Show nomination, a production must have been released between Oct. 1, 2002 and Sept. 30, 2003, Connelly said. The 21st annual AVN Awards show will be held Jan. 10, 2004, at the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas.

AVN Managing Editor Mike Ramone, meanwhile, reminded producers that Sept. 30 is also the deadline for them to provide AVN with their lists of tapes, scenes, performers, box covers and marketing campaigns they want to be considered for Awards nominations.

Producers are also reminded to provide the magazine with two copies of each tape, DVD and/or scene they would like nominated.
