Hamilton County Sheriff Simon Leis, who with the aid of anti-free speech group Citizens for Community Values has been instrumental in the prosecution of a number of obscenity cases in the area, stoke the fires of the local alternative press with his participation in a St. Patrick's Day Parade.
The problem the sheriff's horseback-riding deputies, all of whom were white, were followed by two African-American prisoners dressed in striped Justice Center jumpsuits pushing garbage cans and brooms.
CityBeat editor Gregory Flannery wrote: "The offensive sight of black men in prison garb literally shoveling the shit of an all-white sheriff's horse brigade caused widespread murmurs in the parade crowd."
