Anti-Porn Activist Runs for Spot on Dickinson County Commission

The leader of an anti-porn group is seeking a spot on the Dickinson County Commission. If elected, Project Daniel leader Phil Cosby would be one of three people on the committee that oversees the governance of the county.

Cosby, 53, reportedly filed this week for the post being vacated by retiring commissioner Paul Whitehair. The Abilene Reflector-Journal reports that Cosby was the first to file for the election and for now is the only candidate, though citizens have until June to file for candidacy.

Cosby gained national notoriety for organizing a picket of the Lion’s Den, an adult store on the outskirts of town. Cosby, under advisement from the American Family association, circulated a petition requesting that a grand jury be formed to investigate whether or not the Lion’s Den sold obscene materials. The grand jury is still in session.

Cosby is running as a Republican, of course. His platform consists of writing new zoning laws to restrict adult entertainment in Dickinson County, though he says he'll give just as much energy to other things as well.
