CHATSWORTH, Calif. - Leading gonzo label Anabolic Digital has announced plans to enter the HD DVD market with the July 9 release of director Ricky D's Penetration 13.
"We believe HD DVD is the next big evolution in adult," said Anabolic's head of sales Dan M. "Right now, there's not enough choice when it comes to porn on HD DVD. It's all story-driven, couples' product. Fans still want to see their favorite genres, and we're going to plant the flag for gonzo."
Transferred at 1080i for maximum image quality, Penetration 13 promises to deliver the nastiest hardcore porn yet seen in true high definition.
"It looks absolutely bananas," Dan said. "The clarity, it makes you feel like you're actually there when you watch."
Although the high-definition video market has yet to reach its full potential, Dan told AVN that he believes the format is poised to take off within the next year.
"Think back to the days when VHS and DVDs were both doing well," he said. "After this holiday season, we think we'll be seeing a similar situation with HD and standard DVD. The HD sales will compensate for some of the diminishing adult DVD sales – fans can see whatever they want on the net for free, so there's got to be something else that brings them into the video stores."
Penetration 13 stars Maria Bellucci, Chelsea Rae, Arianna Nicole, Harmony, Maya Gates and Aline. Dan M. told AVN that fans can expect to see the girls in ultra-hardcore action with scenes featuring anal, DP and big toys.
"In keeping with the high standard of quality that Anabolic is known for, we got six of the hottest girls in the business ready to be seen like they have never been seen before. Fans are going to go crazy over this one," he said.
AVN asked Dan for his take on the idea that the enhanced image quality of HD could dampen the porn fantasy by revealing too much of the performers' physical imperfections.
"One of the fantasies of adult entertainment is feeling like it's real," he replied. "Everybody has a blemish here or there, but it doesn't take away from the eroticism."
Anabolic plans to test the HD DVD market by releasing one high-definition title every six weeks in runs of 1,000 units to start. Penetration 13 will be followed on July 23 by the company's first all-black title, Tony T's It's A Black Thing, which stars ebony beauties Cassidy Clay, Pinky, Tia Sweet, Maya Butts, Chyanne and Jasmin.
