The first of two events this week supporting the Hunter C.A.R.E. (Cancer Awareness Rehabilitation and Education) Foundation — founded to aid cancer-stricken adult performer/director Nicki Hunter and family — took place Thursday night at the Forbidden City nightclub adjacent to the legendary corner of Hollywood and Vine.
Drawing a crowd of porn's finest, all of whom paid a $20 cover charge donated directly to Hunter C.A.R.E., the bash was a raucous and spirited affair. Hunter herself showed up looking radiant with hot pink hair and a snappy outfit, and took the stage at the head of the dance floor about halfway into the night to offer ebullient thanks to attendees, exclaiming, "To all my friends here — no, fuck that, you guys are my family! — I cannot even tell you how grateful I am!"
Co-organizer Jeff Mullen of All Media Play reported that over 500 admissions had been tallied, which met the goal of the event. And aside from the funds generated by the cover charge, additional monies were raised through a prize raffle sponsored by Red Light District and NorthStar Associates, and a porn-star date auction. In total, the party raised approximately $40,000 to benefit Hunter and her family.
In the case of the latter, various porn girls — some of them grouped together as a combo package — displayed their wares on stage as Inside the Industry's James Bartholet took bids for a night out with them. The highest price paid for a date was $950, by Tory Lane for herself. After closing the bid, she took the mike and yelled at the audience, "To all you people out there who shoot porn, fuck you! You make as much money as I do!"
That comment notwithstanding, the air remained positive throughout the remainder of the auction, with a high point coming when Eli Cross and Kylie Ireland came on stage to present a check to Hunter C.A.R.E. for $10,000 from SexZ Pictures. They made the presentation on behalf of SexZ owner Bo Kenney, who is currently in North Carolina.
