Zeus Beerbust Benefits Aid for AIDS

Zeus Studios, in celebration of its 20th Anniversary, held their annual Aid for AIDS Beerbust on Sunday, August 2 at the gay/leather bar, the Faultline. Zeus Studios owner Mikal Bales (a.k.a. Big Daddy Zeus) made quite an entrance in a beautiful, black Hummer filled with his porn stud entourage, who were more than enough incentive to fans to pack the house. This year's event, with over 500 people in attendance, raised over $2,400. The benefit included video give-aways from Zeus, Can-Am and Close-Up. And for the right price, the models were also more than willing to drop their drawers to help with the cause, particularly 1998 Zeus Model of the Year Eric Evans, who graciously mooned the crowd for a mere $20. \n Aid for AIDS, at 14 years one of the oldest AIDS organizations in the city, provides direct financial assistance to men and women in the entertainment industry living with HIV. The contributions help the PWAs with everything from housing and utilities to medical prescriptions and bus passes. \n "The money goes straight to the people who need it," said Ted Abenheim, the event coordinator. "This event does very well, thanks to Mikal. He's extremely generous." \n "In my estimation, Aid for AIDS does more than any other AIDS organization in Los Angeles," Bales said. \n The organization sponsors beerbusts every six weeks at the Gauntlet, but according to Abenheim, the Zeus-sponsored event is by far the largest. The Miller Brewing Co. also donated to the cause. Luckily, the increasingly stringent laws implemented by the Alcohol and Beverage Commission didn't negatively affect the event. The law prohibits bars from giving away free liquor, and only allows bar employees to handle the beer, which means volunteers can no longer tend bar. The law has been in effect for a while; however, according to Abenheim, the commission just began enforcing it. \n "We got donations from the companies to help offset that," Abenheim said. "So, we did about the same as previous years." \n Other models in attendance included first runner-up, 1998 International Leather Man Andrew Lennox from Australia; Mason Flynt; Max Grand; Anthony Gallo; Alex Stone; Austin Masters; Mike McVay; and Rob Roberts. \n For more information on Aid for AIDS or their events or services, call (323) 656-1107.
