Yahoo Buys Photo-Share Site

Internet portal Yahoo has bought British Columbia-based online photo-sharing service Flickr. Terms of the deal were not yet disclosed as of March 21.

Flickr lets you upload digital photographs from your computer or your camera cell phone, assemble photo albums, post photographs to blogs, and other functions.

The deal came a week after Yahoo launched beta testing of a new tool aimed at blending blogging and networking. "We look forward to working with (Flickr) for their innovation and product development across the Yahoo Network in the coming months," Yahoo spokeswoman Joanna Stevens told reporters.

Flickr will remain a standalone site for the time being, Stevens added, but company workers were expected to relocate to Yahoo's Sunnyvale headquarters later in 2005.
