Will Katie Gold Contract Deal Stir Some Shit Up?

First it was Ulee's Gold, now it's katiesgold.com. Except here's where you have to pay attention. Performer Katie Gold currently has a website which puts her first name in the singular. But Gold's recent deal with Sinthetic Video pluralizes it. But that's the least controversial aspect of the deal which also purports to be giving Gold royalties from VHS, DVD and international cable.

"I have a contract with Katie, and we are creating a new website for her," says Andrew Drake of Planet Pixis-Sinthetic Video, regarding the slight name augmentation. "We should have it running by the end of the week." Drake does not run Gold's current site.

What prompted the Gold deal, to some extent, was the fact that her beau, Ian Daniels, works for and directs for the company, Drake said. "Katie's been low profile for awhile. I've known her personally, so we decided to give her a crack at trying to put something together of her own. We're giving her a deal so she can make some royalties.

"I thought this deal would raise some raise eyebrows and probably make me unpopular with the other producers," Drake concedes. "Basically, she's going to get a percentage of sales. It's something to give her. She didn't want to continue on in the industry without having something there for her in the future. That's why the contract seems so nice to her. We'll be fair with her. We have a similar setup with Ian for some future projects, although, being a male, it really doesn't clinch the press. The deal may be ground-breaking and create a roar through the industry. I won't disclose the numbers. They won't break the bank, but they're going to give her something to aim for. I'm surprised some of the other girls haven't attempted that at one time or another. I just thought it would be interesting."

Drake said he had had a similar deal on the table with Alexandra Nice. "She read the contract with her lawyers, and they thought I was trying to rip them off," Drake chuckled. "I guess nobody else has read something or written something that way. They thought it was all a farce. I've been in the business long enough with our internet-stuff and our CD ROM-stuff where I can do something like that. We're going to try and set some standards."

Drake also has another deal with Rebecca Lord. "It's not an exclusive deal with Rebecca," Drake added. "But whatever her production company puts out, we're going to distribute. That's another deal that has come about."
