LOS ANGELES—Wicked Pictures is pleased to announce that it is hosting a private theatrical screening of director Sam Hain’s hotly-anticipated erotic science fiction blockbuster Horizon tonight, September 21, 2011 in West Los Angeles.
The evening will begin with a private cocktail reception, and following the screening, director Hain and his cast will take the stage for an exclusive Q&A session with reporters. At press time, Wicked Girls Jessica Drake, Kaylani Lei and Alektra Blue, as well as such other popular cast members as AVN Best Actress Kimberly Kane, Misty Stone, Rocco Reed, Bill Bailey and Xander Corvus are all expected to attend.
A high-tech step into the year 2085, Horizon unfolds as a civilization of extraterrestrial origin has invaded Earth. Of the planet's nine billion inhabitants, approximately one third have been killed and nearly two billion more have been evacuated to a military base dug into the core of Mercury. Of the four billion humans who remain on Earth, none are expected to survive beyond the next 48 hours.
Taking a last stand against the alien onslaught, one Marine battalion remains on the surface. But they are in retreat, desperately attempting to reach the safety of the space cruiser Horizon, when events occur which place the future of the Earth and all of its remaining inhabitants in peril.
Coming hot on the heels of Steven Soderbergh’s Contagion, Horizon is the first adult film to be shot entirely with the Red Epic camera system, the same revolutionary technology first used to create Soderbergh’s hit thriller. And tonight, Hain's spectacular sci-fi adventure will become the first movie in XXX history to be screened theatrically with 2K digital resolution.
But even before word of tonight’s historic screening began to circulate, Horizon-mania had gripped the mainstream science fiction and horror communities. In a startling move, Gawker Media’s io9.Com, the web's premiere portal for science fiction and futurism, posted the film’s YouTube trailer on its home page, earning the clip nearly 40,000 unique plays in less than 14 days. And Fangoria, the world’s top horror and dark fantasy periodical since 1979, has dispatched a four-person camera crew to cover tonight’s screening for their website and print magazine.
Event attendees will be the first members of the press to see Horizon, which goes into general release September 30, 2011 in a special digital combo pack that will include DVD, Blu-ray and downloadable editions of the film. For Hain, the decision to screen the film for his audience in a 2K-equipped mainstream theater was a critical one, as the process will allow viewers to fully appreciate the cutting-edge technology used to bring his fascinating tale to life.
"We used the Red Epic system because we wanted to make the most cinematic adult film ever produced," Hain said. "I'm confident that when the audience watches Horizon they'll feel as though they're enjoying a high quality mainstream production."
In the wake of Contagion and Horizon, several other Hollywood productions have announced their usage of the Red Epic camera package, including Bryan Singer's Jack the Giant Killer, Ridley Scott's Prometheus, Peter Jackson's The Hobbit, and James Cameron's Avatar 2.
Horizon. It's high noon at the end of the universe.
