LOS ANGELES—Wicked Pictures, the studio responsible for two of the most critically acclaimed science-fiction titles of all time, is at it again. Wicked regular Jonathan Morgan mined the genre for laughs in the comedy hit Space Nuts, and Brad Armstrong went for epic drama in 2040; both picked up 5A ratings from AVN. And now Wicked is releasing Horizon, helmed by AVN Award-winning filmmaker and genre specialist Sam Hain.
The imaginative foray into the realm of big-budget, original sci-fi drama stars Wicked Girls Jessica Drake, Kaylani Lei and Alektra Blue along with a host of other adult A-listers.
In anticipation of the film's debut at the end of September, Wicked has released the cover art as well as a two-minute trailer and an on-the-set interview with co-star Jessica Drake. The trailer and interview can be found on the company's YouTube channel, Youtube.com/wickedpictureslive.
Additional clips featuring Q&A sessions with co-stars Kaylani Lei and Kimberly Kane will be posted in the days and weeks leading up to the movie's release.
Coming Sept. 28, this ambitious science-fiction spectacular is one of the first features in either the mainstream or adult genres to have been shot with the new Red Epic camera system, a creative decision that director Hain believes was critical to perfecting the production's unique visual aesthetic.
"We used the Red Epic because we wanted to make the most cinematic adult film ever produced,” Hain said. “Not only does the sensor give you an image quality comparable to 35mm film, but when combined with the Zeiss Master Prime lenses, we were able to shoot in extremely low light set-ups that give the film a look never before seen in an adult release."
Already an acclaimed director with several successful sci-fi parodies to his credit, Hain is thrilled to have completed his first original film for Wicked Pictures, and believes it possesses all the elements needed to become a crossover release. "At the end of the day, I'm confident that when you watch Horizon you'll feel as though you're enjoying a high-quality mainstream production."
The action in Horizon takes place in the year 2085, after a civilization of extraterrestrial origin has invaded Earth. About one-third of the planet's 9 billion inhabitants have been killed; nearly 2 billion more have been evacuated to a military base hidden in the core of the planet Mercury.
Of the 4 billion humans who remain on Earth, all are expected to perish within 48 hours. Taking a last stand against the alien onslaught, one Marine battalion remains on the surface. But they are in retreat, seeking shelter in the space cruiser Horizon.
In addition to the Wicked Girls, the denizens of the year 2085 include AVN Best Actress winner Kimberly Kane, Bobbi Starr, Misty Stone, Aiden Starr, Rocco Reed, Bill Bailey, Tony De Sergio, Xander Corvus and Danny Mountain.
