Wicked’s Breathless and Private’s Private Gladiator Win Home Entertainment 2003 Honors

Wicked Pictures’ Breathless and Private Media Group’s Private Gladiator: Collector’s Limited Edition respectively won the two categories available for adult entertainment, Adult Title of the Year and Best Overall DVD Presentation for Adult Product, at the Video and Software Dealers Association’s (VSDA) Home Entertainment 2003 show.

The Adult Title of the Year, the sole category that adult titles are eligible for in the Home Entertainment Awards, was determined in voting by the membership of VSDA, which consists largely of retailers.

Likewise, the award for Best Overall DVD Presentation for Adult Product is the sole category that adult titles are eligible for in the 2003 Home Entertainment DVD Technical Awards, a separate set of awards given out the same day. The DVD Technical Awards are given to titles that have demonstrated the most innovative and entertaining features through the use of the latest DVD technology.

Both categories of awards, the bulk of which go to mainstream projects, were given out during the VSDA opening ceremony this morning.

“Woo-hoo! It’s an honor to receive recognition from a mainstream body as respected as the VSDA,” Wicked publicist Daniel Metcalfe told AVN.com.

Other adult titles nominated for the award include Evil Angel’s The Fashionistas, Ninnworx/Pureplay Media’s Fetish: The Dream Scape, Vivid Video’s Heaven's Revenge and Hustler Video’s Snoop Dogg's Diary of a Pimp

Award categories and nominees were decided by VSDA's Home Entertainment Awards Nominating Committee, which is comprised of retailers, distributors and journalists.

Michael Raven won two AVN Awards for his work on Breathless: Best Director – Video and Best Screenplay – Video, the latter of which he shared with Devan Sapphire. Devinn Lane picked up an AVN Award for Best Actress – Video, and fellow Wicked Girl Sydnee Steele won one for Best Supporting Actress – Video.

Private’s Private Gladiator: Collector’s Limited Edition was chosen for the Best Overall DVD Presentation for Adult Product by a panel of journalists, from both mainstream and adult media.

“Of course we’re delight to receive the award – especially when we are in the company of such major motion pictures Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter and other mainstream blockbusters. Obviously this brings Private Media to the next level in adult DVD production,” said Bob Johnson, COO of Private North America.

Private Gladiator: Collector’s Limited Edition also did well at the 2003 AVN Awards, picking up honors for Best DVD Menus and Best DVD Packaging while the feature itself was named Best Foreign Feature and earned the director, Antonio Adamo, an AVN Award for Best Director – Foreign Release.
