The Los Angeles premier of Wadd: The Life and Times of John C. Holmes, played to a SRO crowd at Hollywood's Egyptian Theatre last night. The film was accompanied by a short subject titled Women Loving Women which was based entirely on a performance art show last May arranged by artist Heilman-C. That production featured plenty of girl-girl loving with Missy, Jacqueline Lick, Kelsy Hart and other femmes du porn...and, in the background, one well known 3D photographer [Mark Kernes].
Wadd is one of the most comprehensive documentaries in existence, spending almost two hours analyzing every aspect of porn's most famous male star. Director Wes Emerson spent more than a year digging up photos, one-sheets, former sex partners, former life partners and former police officers, all of whom contributed to the vast amount of info packed into the show. Among the more familiar [and not so familiar] talking heads were LA Times film critic Kenneth Turan, director Anne Perry, Ron Jeremy, Sharon Holmes [Holmes' first wife]; second wife Laurie Holmes, Sharon Mitchell, Al Goldstein, Richard Pacheco, Juliet Anderson, Annette Haven and others.
Among those in attendance [there were apparently no women there from the business]. included Screw Publisher Al Goldstein, actor Mickey G., and Scotty Schwartz. Emerson held a brief q & a after the film, which hasn't yet found a home with a mainstream distribution company. However, Emerson urges anyone who lives anywhere near where the film is playing to go see it.
