Vuico Inc., a global mobile software company, today rolls out its GoVid Player, a trademarked universal mobile video player that is standardized across mobile phones and networks. The GoVid Player allows interoperability across cellular networks and handsets, and can be customized to enhance the end user’s video and audio experience.
Coupled with the recently released Vuico GoVid mobile video offerings, the package represents seamless integration for content providers who can send content to their customers without depending upon a carrier or content aggregator.
“The content providers have historically been dependent on the carriers to distribute their content. This model has restricted the content providers’ ability to reach their target audiences due to the cellular carrier’s pricing and the specific phones the carrier will support,” says Kjell Hegstad, Vuico’s vice president of global sales and business development. “GoVid and the GoVid Player remove the need for an intermediary and bring the content providers back in control of their content. This is especially attractive for those content providers who know their audience and already have a relationship with that audience.”
The GoVid Player enables advertisements to be added dynamically without modifying the video or audio feed. Mobile coupons, bar codes, and video and audio advertisements can be highlighted on the mobile phone in a variety of ways inside GoVid Player. Ads can be displayed during the initial stream of the video, between video clips, or during a download time. In addition, rolling ads can scroll across the phone display either at the top or bottom of the screen while viewing the video.
For audio-only applications, advertising messages can be displayed on the screen while the end user enjoys the audio feed.
The feature-rich GoVid Player allows for customizable menu items based on the content provider’s application. This may include age verification, balance notification, and favorite play-list creation, in addition to standard player features such as pause, skip, and rewind. The GoVid Player also allows for synchronized audio with slideshow presentations for enterprise uses.
Vuico’s content partners may use the GoVid suite of mobile video products to broadcast content to their users. With GoVid on the handset, the user can switch channels like they do on television; access news, sports, and entertainment, and build a favorites list. Additionally, on certain phones, GoVid can allow download access to music videos, comedy clips, recipe guidance, and any clip the user desires to download and save to the phone for repeated play.
The GoVid Player utilizes NTT Software’s BLUEGRID middleware technology localized by Vuico for the U.S. market. The client-server application operates in J2ME standards on the handset communicating to a J2EE server. The application dynamically assigns the picture size for the video to optimize the user’s experience by allowing the feed to utilize the largest portion of the handset display. The GoVid Player allows for playback of any 3GPP-compliant content via streaming or download.
