LOS ANGELES—For two companies that have been around for more than half a century combined it’s a pretty special occurrence when new ground is broken. For the first time in AVN Media Network’s 27-year history, two new releases from the same company have dominated the top two slots on AVN’s Retail Buzz weekly sales chart for three weeks in a row.
Vivid Entertainment’s Kendra Exposed, the celebrity sex tape starring Playboy Playmate and Girls Next Door star Kendra Wilkinson, and Batman XXX: A Porn Parody, directed by Axel Braun, have flip-flopped in the top two spots three weeks running—a feat that has never happened before.
"Of course we're pleased that we're the first studio to have two movies at the top of the AVN charts for three weeks running,” Vivid Entertainment founder and co-chairman Steven Hirsch told AVN.
Wilkinson’s sex tape, currently sitting in the No. 2 spot on the new chart released today, is a testament to her high mainstream profile. She was featured as one of Playboy founder Hugh Hefner’s three live-in girlfriends on the E! Entertainment reality series Girls Next Door, and now stars in her own spin-off show, Kendra.
“Kendra Exposed has been a blockbuster for us from the moment it was released, which isn't a surprise considering her enormous fan base,” Hirsch said.
Batman XXX: A Porn Parody tops the Retail Buzz Charts this week. The title made news yesterday when the Village Voice featured a full-page, full-color tongue-in-cheek comic about the adult title.
Director Braun couldn’t be more pleased with the way his title’s been selling at retailers—and been received by fans.
"Holy Blockbuster! Being at the top of the AVN charts for three weeks straight is almost surreal,” he said. “Batman XXX was definitely a labor of love for me, and its huge success is incredibly rewarding. Everybody involved in the production pulled all the stops to make sure the movie came out exactly the way I wanted, and the people at Vivid showed me exactly why they are the number-one adult company in the world."
Hirsch concurred.
"We enjoyed working with Axel on the Batman parody,” he said. “He's not only very talented, but has a real passion for his work. Obviously, fans felt the same way.”
