LOS ANGELES - Vivid Entertainment announced today that the estate of the late Jimi Hendrix has failed to provide proof that the man seen in Vivid's "Jimi Hendrix: The Sex Tape" is not the legendary rock guitarist.
Vivid co-chairman Steven Hirsch challenged Experience Hendrix LLC to debunk the sex tape after the estate issued a May 2 statement denouncing the video as a fake."In early May we made a good faith offer through our attorneys to pay $100,000 to Experience Hendrix if it could offer proof within 60 days that our tape was not authentic," Hirsch said. "We always knew it was real and were confident that the Hendrix heirs would be unable to substantiate their claims."
Vivid recruited famed Sixties rock groupies Pamela Des Barres and Cynthia "Plaster Caster" Albritton to authenticate the footage based on their personal knowledge of the guitarist's anatomy. Both women vouched for the identity of the alleged "Hendrix" in a "documentary" video that Vivid constructed around the explicit 8mm footage; Albritton pointed to the fact that she made a plaster cast of Jimi's cock in 1968.
Other experts on the subject have strongly disputed Vivid's claim, including Jimi's brother Leon Hendrix and biographer Charles Cross ("Room Full of Mirrors.") Experience Hendrix does not acknowledge the video's existence on its official website, jimi-hendrix.com.
The footage shown in "Jimi Hendrix: The Sex Tape" depicts a black man with a bandana engaging in porno sex in a hotel room with two unidentified women. The camerawork, editing and performances all display the typical qualities of an early '70s hardcore porn loop.
But can you prove it's NOT Jimi?
"Jimi Hendrix The Sex Tape" can be downloaded on www.vivid.com for $39.95 and is also available at retail stores nationwide. Consumers can view a trailer at www.hendrixsextape.com.
