Video on Demand Comes to Honolulu

The convenience of flicking on your TV and having any adult movie you want beamed into your home any time day or night is moving a lot closer to fruition.

According to Marc Bruder of Santa Monica-based CED, Time Warner, the largest cable operator in the country is rolling out video on demand service to homes beginning in January. It'll start in Honolulu via Oceanic Cable, a Time Warner system, with Time Warner's Viewers' Choice initially supplying five adult cable version features. The features chosen are Crossroads from Wicked Pictures; Carnal Witness from Adam & Eve; Pleasure & Sin from Midnight/Dreamland; Mia from Metro and Timeless from Passion Productions.

"CED is the first licensor of adult movies to Viewer's Choice," said Bruder. "This is the first time you'll be able to watch a movie in your home immediately upon ordering it, just like you can do in a hotel."

"Within the next three to five years there will only be video on demand in the homes," Bruder continued. "You want to see a movie on pay per view? You'll get a menu. Lets' say you pick adult and want to watch Debbie Does Dallas, now. Bang, in the home you'll watch the movie. You'll have the ability to fast forward it. You'll have the ability to rewind, freeze frame - everything but copy the movie.

"About six years ago Time Warner's Full Service Network in Orlando was testing a video-on-demand service called Roadrunner, a high speed modem," Bruder explained. "This is the further development from that test and is now true video-on-demand in the homes. It's been in hotels. But it's never been in the homes. Time-Warner has always been involved in adult cable version programming, but this is the first venture of any cable operator of video-on-demand into the homes. Time-Warner is at the forefront of this technology."
