Video Team to Shoot Interracial Sex Comedy Feature

Video Team is about to go into pre-production with Outta Sight, an interracial sex comedy that will be its biggest feature production since West Side in 2000, according to owner Christian Mann.

“It used to be that there was a shortage of black and interracial product on the market,” Mann told AVN.com. “Now there’s a lot of it, but no one is shooting black or interracial features.” Video Team’s Afro-Centric Productions pioneered both.

Mann described Outta Sight as “The Nutty Professor meets Good Will Hunting, with a lot of interracial sex.”

Mr. Marcus will star as a janitor at a snooty Ivy League university with mostly white students. While cleaning a lab he accidentally ingests a chemical that makes him invisible, allowing him to have sex with all the “presumably prejudiced” white girls, who think they’re having dreams about balling a black man.

Outta Sight, Mann said, will be a “medium budget movie — $40-50,000.” He added that, unlike West Side (based on Romeo and Juliet), its story is not a downer but a lighthearted romp.

Casting of the female roles has not been completed, but it will be directed by Diana DeVoe. Mann said he’ll release it on Sept. 29, right before the deadline for AVN Awards consideration.

Mann said he thinks the comedy is “something Playboy can broadcast” (he has an output deal with Playboy Entertainment Group), and that it will appeal to consumers who still want “story-driven video with good acting and good sex. It’s a big market segment, and they want hot sex without misogyny. And not just female viewers. There are plenty of guys who know that sexual intensity doesn’t have to be mean-spirited.”

DeVoe, the actress-turned-director, has been shooting the company’s Dimes series, along with a new line, the all-black Booty Shop. Mann’s other star woman director is Dee, who took over Mamacitas when Van Styles moved to Hustler, and is also helming No Man’s Land Latin Edition, Vol. 6 of which (shipping June 6) stars Video Team exclusive Yazmene Milan.

Video Team’s signature series, My Baby Got Back and Sista are still in the hands of Corey Jordan.

Mann said he also has a feature deal in the works with David Aaron Clark, the former Video Team contract director who is now independent.
