VIDEO STORE SUES OVER LICENSE

Officials for Lover's Lane & Co. say the videos they sell explain rather than exploit sex, but city leaders aren't buying it. They want a public hearing to determine whether the store's material is educational or obscene.

The Detroit News says Lover's Lane is suing Lathrup Village in federal court to open a shop, after the city denied them a business license. That suit has a Dec. 1 court date in Detroit.

Lover's Lane sells videos, lingerie, novelties, and books, but says they're not exactly an adult book or video store. Lover's Lane attorney Allan Rubin tells the News the city won't distinguish between educational and pornographic or obscene material.

"They sell…nothing like Debbie Does Dallas," he tells the paper. "The city over-generalizes and one category covers everything that has anything to do with sex."
