VCA Pictures is bringing back the Jim Holliday classic, Eye Candy, with an all-new version starring Cindy Crawford.
“In a way, we’re paying tribute to Jim and his work,” said Wit Maverick, a longtime friend and colleague of the late director who is VCA’s director of production.
The two-disc set includes the original Eye Candy on DVD. The new version is an interpretation of the classic 1998 title, but with an updated theme featuring many of Holliday’s original ideas, Maverick said.
“He had a one-of-a-kind sensibility. He had a really uncanny grasp of what the consumer wanted to see.”
The title or what Maverick called the “reimagined” version of Eye Candy, is part of VCA’s effort to pay homage to Holliday who died in 2004. The new title was spurred after the company discovered files belonging to Holliday outlining his plans for future movies and unfinished projects.
“Some of Jim’s files were clearly distinguished for future projects that he was unable to get to," Maverick said. "The treasure trove included many handwritten notes on whatever he could find when an idea struck – from gum wrappers to napkins to notations on margins."
As it is, Eye Candy is just the first of what could be a number of Holliday titles VCA hopes to make in homage to the industry visionary.
Keeping with Holliday’s penchant for using a slew of hotties, the new Eye Candy also features Jenna Presley, Francezca Valentina, Valerie Herrera, Jesse Summers, Cali Cassidy, Chloe Morgan and Dale Jordan.
“Cindy Crawford was totally outrageous in this movie and she actually worked with Jim Holliday early in her career,” Maverick said.
“Jenna Presley also turned in a really terrific performance, but that’s what Jenna does. But all the girls were great.”
Known for using nasty cheerleaders, sorority girls and slutty nurses, Holliday made his mark with a series of titles featuring hardcore sex with hot, young starlets.
“He was great at making hot, hardcore porn,” Maverick added.
