LOS ANGELES - Adult performer Brian Surewood, a.k.a. Brian Barnes, 44, is being held by police along with 19-year-old Armando Gamboa Ayon on charges of second degree murder following a traffic incident Tuesday that resulted in the hospitalization of a 31-year-old mother and her two children, one of whom has since succumbed to the injuries.
The Los Angeles Times reported today that the 5-year-old child, Ayman Arif, passed away at approximately 11 p.m. last night at UCLA's Mattel Children's Hospital.
Early reports incorrectly speculated that the accident resulted from a street race that got out of control. Police are now saying it may have occurred due to "road rage." Barnes was not arrested on the scene of the incident, but turned himself in later in the day.
KNBC.com reported that Barnes and Ayon were traveling between 50 and 90 mph westbound on Sherman Way preceding the accident. At 3:12 p.m., Barnes, who was driving a red Camaro, slammed on his brakes, and Ayon, in a black Nissan, swerved to the right in an attempt to avoid a collision, only to smash into a silver Daewoo, which in turn struck the three family members and pinned them against a black Honda Civic.
Arif's mother and 2 1/2-month-old sister were also severely injured and remain in critical condition. The mother reportedly is likely to lose one leg, while the other leg also was severely crushed. The 2 1/2-month-old suffered severe scrapes and injuries.
According to the Times, Barnes and Ayon were rebooked with the second-degree murder charges following the boy's death. Both men are being held on $1.5 million bail, and the case is expected to be presented to the district attorney's office sometime today.
