Unclockable: Irish Teen Builds A Better Browser

Xwebs Megabrowser, with 120 search engines, every media player of note, and a DVD decoder built in, was the pride of 16-year-old coder Adnan Osmani's science fair.rnrn

"I just wanted it faster, for myself," said Osmani, from this community just west of Dublin. "I wanted to make the perfect browser."rnrn

The megabrowser parses commands differently from Netscape Navigator and Internet Explorer (though it is built on the latter's shell), essentially breaking down commands and delegating them before reassembling the independently-gathered results. It took Osmani two years to put together the one million-plus lines of code, generated with the pre-Visual Basic language Borland C ++.rnrn

Osmani's efforts were hailed with top honors, but his claims to having invented a radically-faster browser could not be taken into account, as that wasn't the point of the fair and judges did not benchmark the speed.rnrn
