LAS VEGAS—Stormy Daniels, the Wicked Pictures contract star and questionable candidate for the Louisiana Senate seat currently held by Sen. David Vitter, told AVN Wednesday afternoon that she is unaware of any public announcement regarding her Senate run planned for April 15.
Brian Welsh, Daniels’ political spokesman at least as of last July, said in an email Tuesday that Daniels will make an announcement April 15. According to CBS News, “Welsh says Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, believes the timing will highlight the need for tax reform.”
The Baton Rouge-born Daniels completely contradicted that claim, however.
“I didn't have anything to do with that announcement,” she said Wednesday afternoon in an email response to AVN. "It was a surprise when I read it yesterday."
Thursday, the 2009 AVN Award Crossover Star of the Year replied to an AVN query, saying that the Senate run is over and placing the blame for her decision not to continue on her arrest on domestic battery charges in July 2009, and more specifically on estranged husband, industry publicist Mike Moz.
"No," she said in an email, when asked if she planned to resurrect the campaign. "My ex husband basically made sure to ruin any chance I had when he had me arrested...even though charges were never filed because he made the story up, [the] damage was done."
According to the Tampa, Fla. police report, officers were called to the couple's home on July 25, 2009, after they "had a verbal argument which escalated into the defendant hitting the victim several times in the head with her hands."
Moz replied to an AVN email, saying, "I have no comment on personal matters involving my wife and me."
Daniels’ last official activity with respect to a possible Senate run was during the summer, when she conducted a “listening tour” around the state to meet with prospective voters and hear their concerns.
“The listening tour is Daniels' latest collaboration with her supporters at DraftStormy.com, who are encouraging her to truly consider running for the U.S. Senate seat of David Vitter,” wrote Edward Duncan on AVN.com at the time.
The DraftStormy website is no longer live, however, yet another "clue" that the erstwhile campaign is no longer active. And except for an appearance on the video chat website IMLive in October, where Daniels solicited call-in questions about a possible run, the award-winning star has remained mum about the campaign. Neither did she elaborate in Wednesday’s email whether she intends to run or not.
AVN called Brian Welsh for comment on the apparent inconsistency, but had not heard back from him by post time.
