Two Kansas Adult Stores Avoid Indictments

A Saline County grand jury convened to determine whether criminal charges should be brought against two Salina adult stores will not issue any indictments, Saline County District Court Judge, Dan Hebert, said in a published report.

Hebert dismissed the grand jury on Friday after it had determined not to bring any charges against Behind Closed Doors or Priscilla’s.

“The grand jury in the obscenity case has returned their report, and they’re not indicting anybody,” Hebert told the Salina Journal. “They notified me in writing that they have completed their investigation, and they’re not returning any indictment against any individual or entity. They requested to be discharged, and they were so ordered.”

The grand jury was impaneled about three weeks ago as the result of a petition drive started by a Salina resident, according to the report.

Mike Zrubeck, owner of Behind Closed Doors, told the newspaper, “I thought it might go longer than this. I am kind of surprised it went this quick. It’s real good news. It says that me and Priscilla’s were not breaking no law, and Cosby can’t do anything about us.”

According to the report, Zrubeck was referring to Phil Cosby, who succeeded in getting a grand jury impaneled in that town regarding items sold by the Lion’s Den Adult Superstore. In the Abilene case, the grand jury handed down a 29-count indictment accusing the Lion’s Den of promoting obscenity. The charges were dismissed in March when a judge ruled that the petition calling for the grand jury was improperly filled out, but the Dickinson County attorney since has filed charges on his own.
