Technology and entertainment website TopTenReviews.com has released an updated report on the global porn market as part of its 2007 Internet filter software review. Far exceeding statistics compiled and published by AVN, the site's survey estimated adult industry revenues at a minimum of $97 billion.
According to the site's report, the United States generated $13.3 billion in revenues from porn in 2006. China led worldwide revenues at $27.4 billion, followed by South Korea ($25.7 billion) and Japan ($20 billion.)
The site concluded that "the worldwide revenues of the pornography industry today equal more than the revenues of the top technology companies combined – Microsoft, Google, Amazon, eBay, Yahoo!, Apple, Netflix and EarthLink."
