This Barely Legal Should Really Appeal to the Mainstream

The next installment of Barely Legal should really appeal to a mainstream crossover audience.

National Lampoon’s Barely Legal opens on screens nationwide on Friday. And no, Larry Flynt is not suing for copyright infringement. National Lampoon’s Barely Legal was made with the full blessings of Flynt, whose own Barely Legal is Hustler Video’s flagship line.

“Hustler is extremely proud of the success of our Barely Legal series which is a dominant brand all by itself,” Hustler Video spokesman Jeff Mullen told AVN.com. “Currently in the midst of a remarkable run that shows no end, the commercial boundaries of Barely Legal continue to expand as evidenced by the mainstream attention that the National Lampoon movie will bring.”

The promo line for National Lampoon’s Barely Legal, which stars Erik Von Detten and Sarah Jane Potts, is, “They couldn’t rent it, so they made it themselves.”

“Hustler worked with the producers of this movie and looks forward to enjoying its great success,” Mullen continued. “Larry Flynt hopes to attend the Hollywood premiere of what should be a very entertaining feature presentation.

“Hustler continually receives opportunities to commercialize the brand, and since the name Barely Legal is a well-known trademark and brand name, Mr. Flynt felt comfortable in participating in this project which will continue to expand the company’s horizons.”

Hustler’s Barely Legal has been the company’s most recognizable and popular line, hitting volume 50 last year. Despite the cancer related death of series director Clive McLean earlier this year, the series will continue on, as will such offshoots as the Barely Legal Innocence and Barely Legal Corrupted lines.
