Think It's Bad in Tampa? Ban on nudity goes into effect in Wichita

According to the Wichita Eagle, it's all over but the shouting in Wichita, Kansas as a ban on nudity, at least toplessness, went into effect this past Friday. This ban affcets the city's four topless clubs. The dancers who are resorting to hot pants and high necklines, say their tips are down and the clubs are reporting a drop of 75% in attendance. Customers say the ban violates their rights.

City Council member Phil Lambke, one of six who voted for the nudity ban, said the new ordinance was necessary to keep a topless bar from opening near Old Town -- the nightclub, restaurant and retail district that has drawn heavy investment.

"The council has always been protective of Old Town, and they just feel that this (planned topless bar) encroaches on the atmosphere or the type of image that the city's trying to get across down there," Lambke said.

The bars say it's likely they'll challenge the ban in court.
