NEW YORK CITY— Previews begin tonight in New York City for The Performers, a "new romantic porn comedy" starring Cheyenne Jackson, Henry Winkler and Alicia Silverstone that takes place backstage at a Las Vegas adult entertainment awards show very similar to the AVN Awards. Written by David West Read and directed by Evan Cabnet, the production officially opens November 14 at the Longacre Theatre.
According to a brief item published today on Broadway.com, "The Performers follows two high school buddies (Jackson and Daniel Breaker) who run into each other at the Adult Film Awards in Las Vegas. Jackson plays adult film star Mandrew, who is nominated for Male Performer of the Year, while Breaker plays Lee, a tabloid reporter sent to cover the event. Ari Graynor and Silverstone star as Jackson and Breaker’s respective love interests, who get swept up in the frenzy of this crazy weekend in Vegas. When the night takes an unexpected turn, relationships are threatened. Along for the ride, are Winkler as legendary porn star Chuck Wood, who’s receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award, and Jenni Barber as Sundown, a budding adult film actress."
Read, who attended the AVN Awards in 2012, described his experience last week in a article published in the New York Times.
