The Other Side of Star

In doing a background piece on Star, the Daily News says that federal prosecutors have painted Star "as a manipulator who allegedly wheedled stock tips from broker James McDermott and passed them on to her pal Anthony Pomponio."

"Those who know the actress say she couldn't have dreamed up the scheme," says The News. "Marylin is a loving, trusting person, but her Ph.D. is in pornography, not high finance," said Marc Medoff, president of the Manhattan-based Adult Press Service, which covers the porn industry.

Al Goldstein, publisher of Screw Magazine, said that after he "performed" with Star in her last movie, "Marylin Does Miami," she bragged that she had "a rich boyfriend."

"So I'm not surprised she's in trouble," Goldstein said. "She was only making one movie a year because she could afford to be an artiste."

"Dion Giarrusso [GM at Elegant Angel], who directed a few of Star's videos, said he, too, wasn't surprised that she might be involved in an insider trading scheme. "She's a gold digger," Giarrusso told the news. "I have nothing against the girl, but she's loyal to the dollar."

Star, according to The News, lives in the luxurious South Pointe high-rise on Miami Beach. "The blonde was a much sought-after stripper in Canada before she moved to Los Angeles around 1993 and launched her porn movie career. Her brief marriage to a Japanese immigrant ended in divorce," The News wrote.

"She quickly became one of the highest-paid performers in the business," said a former pornographer.
