Luther Campbell, the pioneer of “booty rap” best known as the front man for 2 Live Crew, whose graphically sexual lyrics laid over booming Miami bass lines led to his arrest on obscenity charges in both Ohio and Florida, has teamed up with Exquisite Multimedia and Justin Slayer Productions for a new hip-hop meets porn series Peepshow XXX.
Campbell signed with Exquisite Multimedia at AEE and intended to begin shooting the first volume of the series immediately after the AVN Awards on January 10 – but that plan was dropped when Method Man and Redman noticed Campbell while he was shooting pick-up scenes outside on the Las Vegas strip and insisted on going to a “Luke party.”
“That’s what we’re going to do for people. We’re going to take them to a ‘Luke party,’” Tony B., general manager for Exquisite Multimedia explained. “We’re going to throw a real party in Miami and show them how Luke does and how Exquisite Multimedia does it. We’re going to stir it up right and videotape what goes on.”
For Campbell, whose music career loosely followed Larry Flynt’s career – both were arrested in Cincinnati, Ohio on obscenity charges and both men were forced to defend their work as parodies in front of the United States Supreme Court – it’s just a natural progression to become involved in adult entertainment.
“I’ve been doing it for a minute, this sex thing. What me and Justin [Slayer] are going to do is bring the two worlds of hip-hop and sex together in a way that no one else has done before,” Campbell told AVN.com.
“The series is going to be a lot like what my life is like on the road. All sorts of crazy shit goes down when I come into a town,” Campbell said. “Women get their booties shakin’ and get freaky up on the stage when I play – and it’s even crazier in the back.”
Slayer, who suggested Campbell make the cross over, will direct Peepshow XXX.
“We’re going to do this right. Slayer is going to concentrate on doing what he does and I’m going to concentrate on doing what I do. But if he needs me to get up in there, I’ll do what I got to do,” Campbell said.
Campbell intends to go further sexually on camera than other hip-hop artist that has been involved in porn has. While he may do more than just hosting, the extent of his sexual involvement isn’t set in stone yet – he could end up going all the way. If fact, he promises to do so - under one condition:
“If Slayer can do my job, I’ll do his job. If he can get up on that stage and get the party started and do my job – I’ll do his job,” Campbell said.
Word is that Slayer is signing up for vocal lessons.
Current plans are for the first edition of Peepshow XXX to be shot in Miami in March.
