AVN managing editor Ken Wood, who's in Cannes this week, reports that activities began in real earnestness Tuesday evening with parties sponsored both by Private Video and Video Marc Dorcel which has a villa rented out for the occasion. nrnAccording to Wood, at the Hot Video press luncheon, Max Hardcore said the reason he keeps coming back to Cannes [his sixth appearance] is pretty simple. "They have the hottest girls from here to Helsinki," Max said. "The anal astronauts have landed in Cannes. There's more piston-pumping action in one week in Cannes than there is in a month in Detroit." nrnWood said among the porn contingent seen here are Stacy Valentine, Stephanie Swift, Rocco Siffredi, Christophe Clark, John Stagliano, Cloey Adams, Jade Marcella and all the top European stars, including Tanya Russoff, Lea Martini and Dolly Golden. Max, who's shooting at a villa, said, "We in America take it for granted how much space we have. In Europe everything is smaller. The roads are smaller. A traffic jam in L.A. is nothing compared to what you have in Europe." nrnWood said the scene in Cannes is of hundreds of photographers and the most gorgeous women imaginable. Wood said a typical day in Cannes is one of getting up early, having breakfast, taking the shuttle or taxi to the Croisette and gawking. The Royal Hotel and Casino at Mandelieu is the center of recreational operations for the adult contingent, whereas the Majestic Hotel is ground zero for the Hollywood crowd. "You go through the bar/lounge area and see everybody," says Wood. "It's a scene out of The Player. It's a smoke-filled schmooze fest. In town you have the film festival with adult companies like Private and Hot Video establishing a beachfront. Private had girls doing a photo shoot in their line of clothing called the Private Circle. They also had them modeling fetish wear."
