STUDIO CITY, Calif. - Teravision has released Broken, the adult directing debut of musician Dave Navarro. The movie is the first in a planned series of Teravision titles directed by mainstream celebrities.
“This movie really lived up to all of our expectations,” said Teravision producer Sancho, who developed the project with Navarro. “From the performances to the art direction to the editing to the scoring, it turned out amazing, and we’re very pleased with it. It’s all a result of putting ten times more into this feature than we have with any other movie…and that’s the kind of commitment that we’re looking to put into all of our movies in the future.”
Like Teravision owner Evan Seinfeld, Sancho came to porn with a background in the music business. His directing credits include videos for Korn, Limp Bizkit, Stone Temple Pilots and Jett; earlier this year, he wrapped his first hardcore porn movie, Ferocious.
“When Sancho approached me about possibly directing a film for Teravision, I was initially apprehensive as I was unaware of what kind of latitude I would have creatively,” said Navarro. “However, once he and I met and hashed out ideas, it became clear to me that I had his full support in terms of creative direction and expanding some boundaries. Sancho is not only a strong collaborator, but also a great producer with the ability to execute what appears to be impossible. Without his efforts, this film would never have been made.”
Navarro placed teen porn queen Sasha Grey at the center of Broken. The supporting cast includes Jenna Haze, Victoria Sin, Lisa Daniels, Kayla Paige, Mark Davis, Marco, Tommy Gunn and Spyder Jonez.
“Working with Sasha was an amazing experience,” said Navarro. “I knew that she is considered a great talent in the adult film industry, but I was also personally impressed with her acting ability and willingness to express her own vulnerability. Sasha is a fearless performer and could be [able] to cross over into serious mainstream roles.”
The DVD release of Broken allows viewers to watch the entire movie, or watch all of the sex scenes in their entirety, back to back.
“This isn’t your average porno in that a lot of the sex scenes are intertwined,” Sancho explained. “We didn’t want to leave the guys with their dicks in their hands saying, ‘what’s going on here, one sex scene just stopped and went into something else.’ So we enable people to watch the whole arty feature, or for the jackers, just all the sex scenes.”
Teravision owners Tera Patrick and Evan Seinfeld are enthusiastic about Navarro's movie and the market potential for other celeb-directed porn movies.
“I've always admired Dave Navarro's musical talents and I'm equally impressed with his ability as an erotic filmmaker,” said Patrick. “Broken is a dark, sexy, edgy, hot movie. It is truly glamorous and a refreshing alternative to everyday porn.”
Added Sancho: “I know the Celebrity Series will bring a lot of attention to Teravision and blur the lines considerably on the adult/mainstream crossover, but I also think it would be a cool and unique experience for the celebrity director as well. Being a porn director is one of those positions that is coveted by many, including celebrities.”
Teravision has not yet leaked word of who might be the next celebrity to turn porn director.
“We’re talks with other mainstream celebrities right now about future installments in the serious,” said Sancho. “I think everyone is just waiting to see how this one goes.”
