LOS ANGELES - AVN has announced that adult superstar Tera Patrick will host the 2008 AVN Awards on Saturday, January 12 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.
"Tera Patrick is one of the biggest stars that the industry has ever had, and she’s long overdue to host the AVN Awards," said show producer Gary Miller. "Sometimes, good things take a while to happen. We think she’s going to do a great job, and we’re looking forward to having her as our host this year."
The upcoming show marks a milestone for Patrick and for the AVN Awards, which celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2008.
"This is really exciting for me," said Patrick, who won AVN's Best New Starlet award in 2001. "It's the 25th anniversary of the awards show, and although I'm not 25, this comes at a perfect time. I’ve been in the industry for eight years, and this is one of my great accomplishments to add to the list. Hosting the show is an honor, and I’m so happy I was chosen."
Patrick's company Teravision has enjoyed its most successful year to date in 2007, with such high-profile releases as Fashion Underground, Reign of Tera 2 and Dave Navarro's Broken. Her DVD InTERActive scored a huge hit for Hustler Video and won the Best Interactive award at the recent Venus Berlin expo, where Tera was crowned Businesswoman of the Year.
It's also been a big year for Tera outside the porn world, where her crossover popularity continues to grow. She appeared with husband Evan Seinfeld (a.k.a. Spyder Jonez) on the E! Channel's "Rock Star Wives," hosted Spike TV's Guy's Choice awards, and branched out into the fashion world with the launch of her Mistress Couture line. She even made a cameo in the Hollywood comedy Blades of Glory, in a scene referencing the AVN Awards.
"For me, although it’s exciting to be doing mainstream things, I don’t ever plan on leaving adult," said Patrick. "This is where I started, and everything comes back full circle. AVN has followed me throughout my career, through all my ups and downs. I love hosting and presenting, and I'm going to do the best possible job I can for AVN."
“I am so proud of Tera," said Seinfeld. "We’ve been together for over five years, since 2002. And for me, helping her with her career was just a labor of love. I take no credit for anything that she’s done; Tera Patrick is like a freight train that nobody can stop, even if they wanted to. When she’s in the spotlight, I always say she shines a big light that everybody gets to bask in.”
