Tennesse Bill Aims To Ban Viewing In Cars

Yesterday the Tennessee Senate passed legislation that adds porn to the list of "patently obscene" things, which includes stickers, that car owners cannot exhibit in or on their vehicles.

The bill was sponsored by Sen. Mark Norris, R-Collierville, after one of his constituents complained that his child had seen a porn that was playing in a nearby vehicle.

The legislation would not ban people from watching obscene movies in their vehicles as long as they are not visible to nearby motorists, Norris said. He said he was unaware of any other state with similar legislation.

The bill says violators could be fined between $2 and $50.

Norris noted that limousines and large vehicles, such as SUVs and vans, are being equipped more with televisions.

The bill is now going before the Tennessee House.
