THROB Pres. To Lead Digital Hollywood Seminar

Katie Smith, president of strategic marketing and advertising agency THROB, will lead a seminar on cutting-edge trends in broadband, wireless, and digital media in the adult entertainment industry at the upcoming Digital Hollywood conference here.

The seminar, titled “Understanding the $10 Billion Opportunity,” will be held at Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel in Santa Monica, Calif. on Wednesday, Sept. 29 at 2:15 p.m.

This marks the first time that the prestigious trade conference will address the adult entertainment industry.

“It’s no secret that the mainstream entertainment industry has had trouble adapting to the rapidly changing world of digital media,” said Smith, who is also helping to coordinate seminars for the August 13-15 Internext Expo in Hollywood, Florida. “In general, mainstream companies have been reacting to new technologies, while their adult counterparts have been at the forefront of innovation, and, as a result, are making record profits.”

Smith added that it was the adult entertainment industry that first realized the money-making potential of the Internet, which has helped to fuel the industry’s growth.

Smith has assembled a panel of experts to discuss how this transformation has taken place and what lessons mainstream entertainment companies can learn from it. Seminar participants include Harald Müller, director of strategic accounts for Oplayo Oy; Scott Rabinowitz, president of Traffic Dude, a division of Innovative Ideas International, Ltd.; David Schlesinger, vice president of wireless and mobile for Vivid Entertainment; Farrell Hirsch, producer for Playboy Satellite Radio; Tom Hymes, editor-in-chief of AVN Online; Gregory Clayman, founder and owner of VS Media; and Steve Fecske, president and CEO of ODBN, the leading provider of digital signage for an age-restricted audience in North America.
